It's a rare thing, but sometimes a voice will captivate me so thoroughly that I lose track of the lyrics. Singers like Jeff Buckley or Chris Stapleton... they cast a spell on you. Hollier has one of THOSE voices. It took me three listens to really start to absorb his lyrics because I just kept getting hypnotized by the gruff, soulful croon. When I finally absorbed the words, what I was left with is a rich sonic canvas where Hollier paints the picture of damaged man putting the last of his trust in his woman. The organ that features throughout really brings a holy reverence to some coy, sensual lyrics. The resulting contrast makes for a song that draws you in and begs you to listen over and over again to uncover more. And when a singer has pipes like Hollier? I definitely will.
