This song is the path that Radiohead could have taken after The Bends had they chosen to embrace catchiness. Moody, atmospheric, but still decidedly melodic, this is the 90’s indie anthem we all deserved, it just happened to be released in 2022. I’m a sucker for a waltz, and Christen used the time signature ton her advantage, vacillating from eerie organ in the intro to a pummeling interlude reminiscent of the one in the Goo Goo Doll’s “Iris”. Christen’s voice is the guiding light through all of the musical twists and turns… and I think that’s part of why it works so well. It’s like a familiar friend holding your hand through a carnival funhouse. This is a song to be played at high volumes in your car so you can dashboard drum at all of the right parts and sing along at the top of your lungs (at least that’s how I do it every time.)
