Chelsey Stallings - "Bones"

Chelsey Stallings - "Bones"

The call to be a free spirit is something that wells up deep inside of you, and Chelsey Stallings feels her ancestors echoing in her bones. Family ties continue to be the unofficial theme of 2024 thus far; "Bones" is a sonic journey through the dusty landscapes of the American West, beautifully encapsulating the story of her great-grandmother. The standout feature of "Bones" is the vivid lyrical imagery that transports listeners to a bygone era. Chelsey skillfully weaves a tale of her wild-spirited great-grandma, breaking mustangs with unwavering determination despite her diminutive frame. The visual storytelling is a testament to Chelsey's songwriting prowess, painting pictures of rusted spurs, silver crosses, and the untamed beauty of the Utah's red rock dust and turquoise skies. There's a rough and raw feeling to the production, with Chelsey playfully doing a "check, 1, 2" into the microphone before launching into a soulful vocal. Hints of gritty rock sneak into a thoroughly western musical motif, and there's a perfect balance of passion and refinement in Chelsey's performance. It's a marker that so much of that fire is a genetic trait that has carried across generations. They buried her great-grandmother with her boots on, and I have a feeling in my bones that Chelsey will follow in that legend's footsteps.
