I first heard “Rush Orders” at an NSAI online pitch months before it was released and I immediately knew it was something special (so did the publisher, because they took a copy.) I had to wait a good while to get to hear it again, but it was worth it! Brooks’ sharp tenor voice just slices into the heartache of developing feelings for a person that’s still broken from their last love. There’s an honesty and vulnerability on display here that’s admirable, and it makes me want to up my own game as a writer. The production is smart and cinematic… it almost conjures images of a rom-com protagonist standing out in the rain (you know the scene) right before things turn around. And while I empathize with the pain Brooks had to feel to write a song like this, I also count myself lucky knowing that we got this beautiful piece of art as a byproduct. And you should too.
