Brooks Huntley - "Don't Say It Wasn't Love"

Brooks Huntley - "Don't Say It Wasn't Love"

Brooks Huntley is hitting the ground running in 2023 with this up-tempo post-breakup anthem. He has a gift for finding fresh angles in matters the heart, and he wears that heart on his sleeve. There's an honesty and self-awareness on display here that's absent in most people twice his age. When he sings "go and tell the world that I effed the whole thing up" he doesn't sound bitter or angry; these are the musings of a man who has a healthy understanding of his own shortcomings and just wants closure for both parties. All of these confessional lyrics are packed into a burst of sonic energy led by his sharp tenor voice and finished with ripping dueling guitar riffs. It's like if Dashboard Confessional went to therapy and moved to Tennessee. If you find yourself drawn to John Mayer or Keith Urban's more rock-influenced tracks? This song is for you.
